2024 Wells Fargo Championship Odds: Rory McIlroy Favored at Quail Hollow
Updated:2024-05-08 08:10    Views:155

After Taylor Pendrith prevailed by a shot to win The CJ Cup Byron Nelson, it's time to jump into the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship Odds.

Quail Hollow Club hosts this week's 2024 Wells Fargo Championship as the PGA Tour stops in Charlotte, North Carolina before next week's PGA Championship. The 2024 Wells Fargo Championship is a Signature Event with a field of roughly 70 golfers competing in this no-cut event.

Three-time Wells Fargo Championship winner Rory McIlroy opened as the betting favorite on Monday morning with +900 odds at bet365, with Xander Schauffele behind him at +1100. Each has shortened as of Monday afternoon with McIlroy now at +775 and Schauffele at +950.

Ludvig Åberg opened with the third-shortest outright odds to win this week at +1300, but he withdrew on Monday afternoon at 5:07 p.m. ET, which is why odds for other golfers have shortened since open this morning.

Scottie Scheffler was the only qualified golfer who has not committed to play at Quail Hollow Club as he is expected to become a father this week. Consequently, someone else is favored for the first time in a Signature Event this season.

Rory McIlroy is the outright betting favorite to win the Wells Fargo Championship as of Monday evening at +775 odds. The Northern Irishman enters with momentum as he and Shane Lowry (+5500) won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in a playoff two weeks ago. This was McIlroy second top-five finish in his last four starts as he also finished in solo third at the Valero Texas Open last month.

McIlroy should feel confident returning to Quail Hollow as he won here in his tournament debut in 2010 and added two more Wells Fargo Championship wins in 2015 (by seven shots!) and 2021. Overall, McIlroy has eight top-10 finishes in his 12 starts at Quail Hollow.

Defending champion Wyndham Clark opened with the fourth-shortest odds to defend his title this week in Charlotte at +1900 on bet365 and is now +1500. Clark has been boom-or-bust this season as he has four top-three finishes, including a win at Pebble Beach, in his 10 starts, but he also has not finished any better than 29th in his other starts.

The Oregon Duck has a similarly volatile profile here at Quail Hollow with his win last year being his only top-35 result in three starts. While Clark missed the cut at the Masters, he bounced back with a tie for third in his most recent start at the RBC Heritage, which moved him past Schauffele and into second in Strokes Gained: Total at +1.780 on the season — still well behind Scottie Scheffler's astronomical +2.851 SG: Total.

Xander Schauffele finished second here last year four shots behind Clark and enters with the second-shortest odds at +950 to win outright. Schauffele has been playing consistent golf this season with seven top-10 finishes in 11 overall starts. He has also finished in the top 25 in 10 of his 11 starts.

Schauffele has played Quail Hollow Club four times in his career and has improved his results each time. He missed the cut in his first start here at the 2017 PGA Championship and finished T72 in 2018, but he most recently tied for 14th in 2021 before finishing second last year.

Ludvig Åberg was the only other golfer who opened at 20-1 or shorter on Monday morning at bet365 as the 24-year-old had the third-shortest odds to win this week at +1300. Since the Tour got to the mainland, Åberg has rattled off eight consecutive top-25 finishes, including two solo second-place finishes at Pebble Beach and Augusta National.

Åberg has since withdrawn due to a knee issue.
